In a major escalation of cross-border hostilities, Pakistan attempted coordinated drone attacks on 26 locations across three Indian states late last night. The Indian Air Defence System (ADS) successfully intercepted and neutralized over 100 drones targeting both civilian areas and military establishments. Among the targets, 10 drones were destroyed in Rajasthan, 9 in Jaisalmer, 15 in Srinagar, and over 10 in Gujarat. An explosion was also reported near the Srinagar airport, raising concerns about potential infrastructure damage.
Injuries Reported in Punjab
Three civilians sustained injuries in Ferozepur, Punjab, after one of the downed drones crashed into a residential area. Authorities confirmed the injuries resulted from debris after the drone was neutralized mid-air by Indian forces. The incident has further intensified public anger and raised alarms over civilian safety in border areas.
Pakistan Accused of Using Civilian Flights as Cover
Indian intelligence sources have alleged that Pakistan used civilian airliners as a tactical shield during the drone operation. Flights between Karachi and Lahore reportedly continued between 8 pm and 9 pm without the closure of Pakistani airspace, suggesting a deliberate attempt to complicate India’s response measures.
PM Modi Holds Emergency Defence Meeting
In response to the aggressive provocation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level emergency meeting lasting over three hours with the three service chiefs and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The meeting focused on evaluating Pakistan’s tactics and strengthening India’s air defense preparedness. Later, PM Modi also held consultations with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss possible diplomatic moves.
India Sends a Stern Message
India has condemned the attacks in strong terms, with officials warning that continued aggression will be met with decisive retaliation. The Indian armed forces remain on high alert, ready to respond to any further provocations from across the border.
