Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Kargil War Memorial in the Dras town located in the union territory of Ladakh on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. He paid tribute to the sacrifice of the armed soldiers during the Kargil war. “Today, this great land of Ladakh is witnessing the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Kargil Vijay Diwas tells us that the sacrifices made for the nation are immortal. As time passes, days turn into months, months into years, and years into centuries - the names of those who laid down their lives for the sake of national security remain etched in our collective memory, forever immortalised,” Modi said at a public meeting in Dras.

Modi also witnessed a blast at the Shikun La Tunnel that was orchestrated in an effort to establish all-weather connectivity in Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. Amidst severe criticism by opposition parties for silence on the series of terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi hinted at a role of the neighbouring country Pakistan in carrying out the attacks. “Pakistan has failed in all its nefarious attempts in the past. But Pakistan has not learned anything from its history. It is trying to keep itself relevant with the help of terrorism and proxy war. From where I am standing, the masters of terrorism can hear my voice directly. Our bravehearts will crush terrorism, and the enemy will be given a befitting response,” Modi added.
