Trade relations between India and Pakistan have deteriorated sharply following a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region. In a retaliatory move, Pakistan has announced the closure of its ports to all ships arriving from India. This decision comes shortly after India imposed a complete ban on both direct and indirect imports from Pakistan, citing national security and public policy concerns.

The diplomatic strain intensified after terrorists infiltrated Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam on April 22, killing 26 tourists. The attack, one of the deadliest in recent times, has prompted strong reactions and a reassessment of bilateral ties.
In response, Pakistan’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs issued a directive prohibiting Indian-flagged vessels from docking at Pakistani ports. The order also bars Pakistani ships from visiting Indian ports, with any exceptions to be evaluated individually. The move aims to protect Pakistan’s maritime sovereignty and national interests amid rising regional tensions.
The latest developments mark a further deterioration in India-Pakistan relations, with diplomatic and economic engagement now at a near-complete standstill. Observers warn that continued escalation could have wider regional implications, especially in the context of ongoing security challenges.
