The Ministry of External Affairs has announced that the Passport Seva portal will be temporarily unavailable for four days due to scheduled maintenance. The online platform, essential for booking appointments for passport services across India, will be down from 8:00 PM IST on August 29, 2024, to 6:00 AM IST on September 2, 2024.

During this period, no new appointments can be made through the portal. However, applicants with existing appointments for August 30 will have their schedules adjusted and will be notified accordingly. The ministry emphasized that contingency measures have been put in place to minimize public inconvenience.

The Passport Seva portal is crucial for citizens applying for new passports or renewing existing ones. It facilitates scheduling appointments at passport centres, where applicants must appear in person for document verification and a mandatory police verification process. Depending on the chosen service—regular or tatkaal—passports are typically delivered within 30-45 working days or a few days, respectively.

Authorities have reassured the public that services will resume smoothly after the maintenance period, and applicants are advised to plan accordingly to avoid any disruptions.
