  • Top on the list are chemicals and hostile habits

Day 1 of the Path to Parenthood event in Bengaluru saw experts delve into various issues surrounding infertility, with a focus on late pregnancies and the harmful effects of modern lifestyles. Fertility specialist Lavanya highlighted a worrying trend, noting, "25% of couples seek fertility treatment these days. People are postponing pregnancy to later stages in life, losing the natural advantage of conceiving earlier." She emphasized that both men and women are facing fertility challenges due to lifestyle changes.

Uma Nambiar, CEO of India Institute of Science School of Medical Foundation, addressed the financial burden of infertility treatments. "The cost of IVF is high because it’s not covered by insurance, and the treatment itself takes time. These patients often face high-risk pregnancies as they are typically older," she explained.

Dr. Asha Vijay, MD of Garbhagudi IVF, added to the conversation, citing a sharp rise in infertility cases. "Earlier, only 1 to 2 out of 10 couples faced infertility. Now, the number has risen to 5 or 6." She attributed this surge to male infertility caused by low sperm count, and a rapid decline in women’s egg reserves. Dr. Vijay further pointed to exposure to chemicals and electromagnetic radiation as significant contributors to hormone disruption and reproductive health issues.
