The massacre took place on Tuesday afternoon in Baisaran meadow, a popular tourist destination located five kilometers from Pahalgam. Armed militants opened fire on a group of tourists, causing one of the worst civilian tragedies in the Kashmir Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a known proxy of the banned Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility.
