In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 civilian lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a key meeting with Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh on Monday to assess the evolving security situation. This comes as part of a series of high-level consultations following the April 22 attack, which has sharply escalated tensions between India and Pakistan.

The Defense Secretary's meeting with the Prime Minister followed recent interactions between Modi and top military commanders. On Sunday, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh met the Prime Minister to discuss air defense preparedness. A day earlier, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi briefed him on maritime readiness in the Arabian Sea. These briefings indicate a coordinated review of India’s defense posture on multiple fronts.

Last week, during a high-level security meeting, Prime Minister Modi gave the armed forces "Complete operational freedom" to decide the mode, timing, and scale of India's response to the terror strike. The series of discussions highlight the government’s focus on formulating a decisive and strategic response to cross-border terror threats, particularly those reportedly linked to Pakistan-based terror groups.
