PM Modi: Perpetrators of Pahalgam attack will face unrelenting justice; vows to dismantle terror networks

In the wake of a deadly terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives — including 25 tourists and a local resident — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed India’s unwavering resolve to combat terrorism. During a public address in Madhubani, Bihar, the Prime Minister led with a moment of silence to honour the victims, calling the attack a blow to the nation’s soul and a deliberate act against unity.

Describing the incident as a national tragedy, he said the diverse backgrounds of the victims — hailing from multiple Indian states — reflected the country's collective grief. Modi pledged that the perpetrators and their supporters would face unrelenting justice, vowing to dismantle remaining terror networks.

Signaling a global message, Modi shifted to English, asserting India’s commitment to tracking down and punishing every terrorist involved, with an emphasis on global solidarity in the fight against terror. His remarks followed his early return from an overseas visit to Saudi Arabia and an emergency meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security.

India has initiated diplomatic reprisals against Pakistan, long accused of sheltering terror outfits. These include suspending the Indus Water Treaty, closing the Attari Integrated Check Post, revoking visa exemptions for Pakistani nationals under SAARC provisions, and expelling Pakistani defence advisers. The staff strength at both High Commissions will be significantly reduced by May 1 as tensions escalate.
