Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated that every effort to establish peaceful ties with Pakistan has been met with hostility and betrayal. Speaking in a podcast with Lex Fridman, Modi recalled inviting former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to his 2014 swearing-in ceremony as a goodwill gesture, aiming for a fresh start in bilateral relations. However, he noted that such initiatives were repeatedly undermined.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that Pakistan’s leadership would embrace peace, acknowledging that even Pakistani citizens desire stability over conflict and terrorism. He emphasized that India’s diplomatic stance has always been clear, confident, and committed to regional harmony, despite the setbacks.
Shifting focus to India-U.S. relations, Modi spoke highly of President Donald Trump’s leadership, describing him as a courageous leader who prioritizes national interests. He highlighted Trump’s resilience following an assassination attempt during his re-election campaign, calling it a testament to his unwavering dedication.
Recalling the 2019 ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston, he noted Trump’s humility in sitting among the audience and joining an unplanned tour of the stadium, showcasing their mutual trust.
The Prime Minister concluded by stressing the importance of direct dialogue between global leaders, suggesting that misinterpretations often arise due to media and third-party influences.
