Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited the tragic site of the Air India Flight AI-171 crash in Meghani Nagar, Ahmedabad, where 241 people lost their lives in a catastrophic accident. He was accompanied by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu. The aircraft, bound for London, had crashed shortly after takeoff on June 12, 2025, devastating a densely populated residential area near a medical hostel.

During his visit, PM Modi surveyed the wreckage and received updates from senior rescue and disaster response officials. The Prime Minister observed the damage inflicted not only to the aircraft but also to nearby buildings, several of which have been declared structurally unsafe due to the impact.
Following the site visit, PM Modi went to the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, where the sole survivor and multiple injured locals are receiving treatment. He spoke personally with doctors, rescue workers, and family members of the victims, assuring them of full government support and speedy medical assistance. He praised the efforts of the emergency response teams, emphasizing the need for a swift and transparent investigation into the crash.
Security was tight throughout the Prime Minister’s visit, with over 250 personnel deployed to ensure smooth coordination and protection. PM Modi had earlier expressed his grief through social media, calling the incident “deeply saddening and shocking.” His visit is seen as a strong gesture of solidarity in a time of national mourning.
The Air India flight carried 242 individuals, including 169 Indian nationals and 53 British citizens. The tragedy has sparked nationwide sorrow and heightened calls for stringent safety reviews and aviation reforms.
