Political unity in wake of Pahalgam attack: All-party meeting shows rare consensus

A rare show of political unity emerged after an all-party meeting convened by the central government in response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that leaders across the political spectrum unanimously backed the Centre's stance on national security and the Cabinet Committee on Security's (CCS) measures against Pakistan.

Rijiju emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and that all political leaders expressed firm support for past and future counter-terror actions. "India has acted strongly in the past and will continue to do so," he said.

During the meeting, intelligence and Home Ministry officials briefed the participants on the Pahalgam attack, identifying security lapses and the government’s response. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh provided details of the incident and the CCS’s deliberations, terming the attack “deeply saddening.”

Opposition leaders, including Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, condemned the attack and assured full backing for any government action.
