Former Australian batsman Ricky Ponting’s association as the Head Coach of the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise has come to an end. Although the X (formerly known as Twitter) handle of the DC franchise gave a heartfelt tribute to him upon this development, former Indian captain Ganguly who serves as the Team Director of the franchise criticised Ponting for not taking the franchise forward during his 7-year tenure with them. “Let me give you some news. Ricky Ponting won't be the DC coach anymore. Geoffrey Boycott is absolutely right! Ponting has not taken DC forward in these seven years. You need to talk to the management. I would suggest looking at Indian options for the coach,” Ganguly said in an interaction with Bangla daily AajKaal.
There are speculations that Ganguly might take up the position of the Head Coach in the upcoming season for DC. “Why not me? Let's see if I can do it or not. We need to rope in some new players. I wanted to bring in England's new star Jamie Smith for DC's SA20 side (Pretoria Capitals). He was even ready to come in, but then England will be busy for their India tour at that time,” Ganguly added.

In the infamous Sydney test in 2008, Ponting as a captain claimed that Australian batsman Micheal Clarke had taken the catch of Sourav Ganguly although the visuals clearly indicated that the ball had pitched before landing onto his hand. Whether the 2 of them have really moved on from that incident remains unknown.
