Prajwal Revanna expelled: Will his victory be upheld if he wins the Hassan seat?

With mounting pressure amid videos of the sexcapades of Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna being released, JD(S) patriarch HD Devegowda has expelled him from the party.

As the cries for an investigation gathered more intensity, the state government formed an SIT to probe the matter. And as the probe began, the tainted leader allegedly flew to Germany. Incidentally, his househelp came forward and filed a complaint with the police.   

The Devegowda family is particularly sensitive about its reputation being spoiled. Not just his family, even the ‘clean image’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was at risk. In fact, the uncle of the accused and former CM HD Kumaraswamy had openly declared  that there was no question of protecting Prajwal Revanna. 

Now, the move to expel him has come as a moral victory for the JD(S)-BJP coalition. 

What if Prajwal Revanna wins? 

In the event of Prajwal Revanna tasting success from the Hassam MP seat, he will represent the constituency. However, on moral grounds, it will not be tenable for the party to back him. Therefore, on these grounds, he may be asked to resign. 

But legally, until proven guilty, he is innocent.
