The police has been granted judicial custody of Sandalwood actor Darshan also referred to as the Challenging Star and 3 other suspects over a suspicion of involvement in the murder of Renukaswamy. They were produced before the 24th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) on 22nd June. They will be stationed at the Parappana Agrahara Jail until 4th July.
There was curiosity regarding whether the police would seek to extend the duration of police custody or concede to the judicial custody of the suspects. Prasanna Kumar who argued for the government requested for judicial custody.
The police claimed to have adequate proof to establish the guilt of the suspects. The police highlighted the inhumane way in which Renukaswamy was murdered. Pavithra is alleged to have provided the stimulus for the murder. The police have alleged that a conspiracy was hatched to murder Renukaswamy after which he was kidnapped. A charge of destruction of evidence has also been made. Lakhs of rupees are said to have been spent on this.
The police have also claimed to have received threats from people associated with Darshan fan clubs. This was their rationale to seek judicial custody.
