Bengaluru's much-needed pre-monsoon showers have brought along a host of urban problems, with waterlogging and infrastructure failure once again surfacing in several parts of the city. While the rains have subsided slightly, the aftereffects are far from over for many residents.

In areas like Koramangala 6th Cross and C-Block, the sudden downpour led to severe water accumulation. Several apartment basements were submerged in muddy, stagnant water. The inundation not only flooded homes but also left parked vehicles, especially two-wheelers, completely submerged. Residents woke up to chaos, with their vehicles drowned and access to essential spaces like lifts and parking completely cut off.
The water entered apartment compounds through drainage overflows, indicating poor stormwater management. In several places, youth volunteers and residents stepped up to help each other by manually pulling out soaked vehicles from flooded basements. Their efforts were captured on video and widely circulated, showing the city's resilience even in adversity.
Flooded streets, clogged drains, and malfunctioning pumps only worsened the situation, and complaints about BBMP’s preparedness have been rising. Despite recurring monsoon troubles every year, the lack of preventive infrastructure remains a key concern.
Urban planners and citizen groups are now urging the authorities to act swiftly before the southwest monsoon sets in fully, which could lead to further disruptions.
