In the month of November many celebrities penned an open letter to the President of the United States of America (USA) Joe Biden in support of the de-escalation of tensions in the Gaza strip. “We ask that, as President of the United States, you and the US Congress call for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel before another life is lost. More than 5,000 people have been killed in the last week and a half – a number any person of conscience knows is catastrophic. We believe all life is sacred, no matter faith or ethnicity and we condemn the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians,” the letter stated. Priyanka Chopra had also signed the letter among other celebrities such as Bradley Cooper and Dua Lipa.
On 11th December, Priyanka Chopra had shared a post of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on her Instagram story. “Children need a lasting humanitarian ceasefire,” the post read. The caption also threw light on the extent of damage incurred in the armed conflict. “After seven days of respite from horrific violence, fighting has resumed. More children will surely die as a result. Before the pause, more than 5,300 Palestinian children were reportedly killed in 48 days of relentless bombing. All children in the state of Palestine and Israel deserve peace and hope for a better future,” the caption mentioned.
