South Africa is within touching distance of making cricketing history as they edge closer to clinching their first-ever ICC World Test Championship title. After an authoritative performance on Day 3 at Lord’s, the Proteas now need just 69 more runs to seal a famous win over defending champions Australia.

Chasing 282 in the fourth innings, South Africa ended the day strongly at 213 for 2, thanks to a resilient and composed partnership between Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma. Markram remained unbeaten on 102*, showcasing both elegance and control under pressure, while Bavuma’s solid 65* provided critical stability at the other end.
Earlier, Australia managed to stretch their second-innings lead to 281, with Mitchell Starc top-scoring with a valiant 58*. However, the rest of the batting lineup crumbled under pressure, largely due to South Africa’s pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada, who picked up nine wickets across the match and consistently troubled the Australian batters.
Day 4 now holds the key. With eight wickets in hand and momentum firmly on their side, South Africa is just a session away from rewriting their cricketing legacy.
