Tragedy struck Pune district on Sunday afternoon as an iron bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed, leading to the death of at least six people and leaving several others feared drowned. The incident occurred in a heavily crowded area, popular among tourists, intensifying the chaos and urgency of rescue efforts.
The collapse is believed to have been triggered by the strong water current, worsened by recent flooding in the region. Visuals from the scene showed a portion of the bridge submerged and debris scattered in the fast-flowing river, with bystanders gathered in panic and distress.
Emergency services quickly mobilized, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reaching the site to initiate rescue operations. However, locals and police personnel were the first to spring into action, pulling out two survivors before official help arrived.

Authorities have confirmed the recovery of six bodies, and search operations continue for others who may be missing. Eyewitnesses reported a sudden loud noise before the structure gave way, sending people tumbling into the river.
There have been prior concerns from local residents about the aging bridge's structural integrity, but these warnings reportedly went unheeded. Many tourists, unfamiliar with the risks, were caught unaware in the tragedy.
