Pune: Woman's punch results in husband's death; he did not take her to Dubai on birthday

Nikhil Khanna, a Pune-based businessman, was married to Jakhar Khanna for a period of 6 years. Jakhar’s birthday was on September 18th and she wished to travel to Dubai on this occasion. However, Nikhil was not in a position to fulfil this request. Later on Jakhar was also upset at not having received an expensive gift on their anniversary which fell on the 5th of November. She also wanted to attend a wedding in Delhi in December and the response of Nikhil to this did not please her. 

On 24th November, when Jakhar was in an inebriated state, an argument ensued between the couple at their  house in Ganga Satellite residential society in the Wanwadi area in Pune. Jakhar punched Nikhil amidst the fight and the impact was so dreadful that Nikhil fell on to the ground. 

Jakhar attempted to revive him but failed in doing so. She called up her father-in-law. Nikhil’s father then rushed him to the hospital. Nikhil had a fractured nose.

 The Pune police believe that the death may have been caused due to blockage in breathing due to blood accumulation in the air channel. A case has been booked against Jakhar under section 302 of the IPC and she has been apprehended. She has not been able to record her statement as she is in a state of shock.
