According to sources, the BJP and NDA leadership are seriously evaluating the profiles of several candidates. Among the names making rounds, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh has emerged as a frontrunner. His recent meeting with President Droupadi Murmu has only added fuel to the speculation.

Hailing from Bihar, Harivansh Singh brings with him vast experience in both journalism and politics. A post-graduate in Economics, Singh worked closely with former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar as an advisor before entering politics through the JD(U). He has served as Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha since 2020 and is considered a respected and neutral figure within parliamentary circles.

With the Bihar Assembly elections looming, there is also political significance in choosing a leader from the state. Analysts suggest the BJP-NDA may aim to consolidate their hold in the region by nominating Singh for the prestigious post.

As per Article 68(2) of the Constitution, the election for a new Vice President must be completed within 60 days of the vacancy, which means the Election Commission will soon issue a notification for the poll process, expected to be concluded by September 19.
