Reports suggest that Rahul Dravid has been intimated that his tenure as the coach of the Indian Cricket Team for men would end after India’s campaign in the International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International (ODI) Cricket World Cup (CWC) will come to an end.
India is scheduled to take on Australia in home conditions after the World Cup and later head to South Africa in December 2023. It could be expected that a new coach would be in the helm of affairs for these games. The names that have been floating for who would succeed him for the role are VVS Laxman and Andy Flower. VVS Laxman has had brief stints as the coach of the team in the absence of Rahul Dravid. Andy Flower coached Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 when the team reached the playoff stage.
Rahul Dravid’s tenure has not been free of controversy as opposed to his persona which is renowned for this. The most prominent among these was the unceremonious ouster of Virat Kohli as the captain of the ODI team. It was expected that the pair of Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma would bring India the much evaded world cup trophy but on 2 occasions, that is in the T20 World Cup 2022 and the World Test Championship Finals in 2023, India came close to the mark but failed to cross the mark. The ICC CWC 2023 would be the last attempt for the duo to prove their mettle.
