Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, intensified his criticism of the Election Commission on Thursday, accusing it of serious irregularities and challenging its handling of electoral rolls and recent elections. His sharp remarks came just hours after Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls currently underway in Bihar.

The Congress leader alleged that the irregularities were not limited to Bihar, where the revision reportedly removed 52 lakh voters, but extended to states like Maharashtra. According to him, the electoral process in Maharashtra was manipulated, and a large number of new voters were added in ways that allegedly benefitted the ruling party.
Rahul Gandhi also expressed dissatisfaction with the transparency of the Election Commission, accusing it of withholding the voter list and making legal changes to prevent videographic documentation of the process.
The row has reignited opposition concerns over voter data integrity and electoral fairness. With the opposition now threatening institutional pushback, the standoff between political parties and the poll panel appears to be escalating.
