Speaking to reporters, Vaishnaw highlighted the need for improved transportation options as Bengaluru continues its rapid growth. "Our government is committed to making train transport efficient in the tech capital. Alongside the suburban rail project, we are planning to introduce the Namo Bharat trains, which will significantly ease the commute between Bengaluru, Tumakuru, and Mysuru," he stated.
The Namo Bharat trains, currently being manufactured at Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) in Bengaluru, promise to reduce travel time and enhance connectivity between the capital city and surrounding towns. These semi-high-speed trains will feature modern safety technologies, including the Kavach system, designed to alert the locomotive pilot in case of danger.
Vaishnaw emphasized the affordability and comfort of the Namo Bharat service, saying it aims to provide middle-class passengers with an efficient and budget-friendly travel option. The trains will also help alleviate Bengaluru's growing traffic issues.
