A 15-year-old boy received a mobile from his neighbour for educational purposes. However, he fell susceptible to the all-encompassing online game addiction that many from his generation are prey to. His mother Lakshmi revealed to the press that he would connect to the nearby WiFi connections and get involved in gaming under his blanket all night long, unknown to them. When others in the neighbourhood warned of the consequences, his phone was confiscated but he managed to retrieve it.
Around Holi this year, his body started having involuntary movements. Medical treatment had not improved his condition. His eyes also required attention. This was cured but he developed other psychological complications. His father Babbar Singh said that the boy would shout “fire, fire” in his sleep, miss his food and sleep and be aggressive to those around him. He is currently undergoing counselling in the Alwar Intellectual Disability Residential School.
