This development follows Roger Binny’s nearing the BCCI’s prescribed age limit for the president’s position, which is capped at 70 years. Binny, a celebrated member of India’s iconic 1983 World Cup-winning team, is set to turn 70 on July 19, 2025. His impending departure necessitates Shukla’s temporary leadership for the next three months until a new president is appointed.

Roger Binny’s tenure as BCCI president began in 2022 when he succeeded Sourav Ganguly. His presidency has been notable for his contributions to Indian cricket, both as a player and an administrator. During his playing days, Binny was instrumental in India’s World Cup triumph, finishing as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 18 wickets across eight matches. His legacy extends beyond his cricketing skills, as he became a respected figure in the world of cricket governance.

Rajeev Shukla, who has served as BCCI vice president since 2020, is well-versed in cricket administration. Prior to his current role, he was the Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) until 2017 and chaired the Indian Premier League (IPL) until 2018. Shukla’s interim appointment comes at a crucial time, ensuring a smooth transition for the BCCI while a permanent replacement for Binny is selected. His experience and leadership within cricketing circles make him a fitting choice for this interim role.
