Rajinikanth's much-anticipated action drama Vettaiyan, directed by Jai Bhim fame TJ Gnanavel, premiered in theatres during the Navratri season on October 10. While expectations were high for the film, it has underperformed at the box office. Despite the film's massive budget, reports suggest it will fall significantly short of its financial goals.

Though Vettaiyan received a mix of decent reviews from critics, and praise for its performances and technical aspects, the word-of-mouth among the audience hasn’t been enough to drive its success at the global box office.

As Vettaiyan continues its theatrical run, attention has turned toward its digital release. Amazon Prime Video secured the streaming rights for the movie even before it hit theatres, reportedly paying a hefty sum of ₹90 crore. The film is expected to follow a four-week OTT release window, similar to Thalapathy Vijay’s The Greatest Of All Time. This means Vettaiyan will make its OTT debut on November 7, shortly after the Diwali celebrations.

Despite the film’s underwhelming box office performance, the OTT deal helped recover around 30% of its ₹300 crore production budget. Fans of Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan are now eagerly awaiting Vettaiyan's official streaming premiere, although Amazon Prime Video is yet to confirm the exact date.
