Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the new BrahMos supersonic cruise missile production unit in Lucknow on Sunday, as part of India’s strategy to strengthen its defense capabilities amid escalating military tensions with Pakistan. The state-of-the-art facility, located within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, is expected to produce between 80 and 100 BrahMos missiles annually. The unit, built at a cost of Rs 300 crore, will manufacture the existing BrahMos missile with a range of 290 to 400 km and a top speed of Mach 2.8, as well as the next-generation BrahMos missile.

The next-gen missiles will have a range of over 300 kilometers and be lighter in weight compared to current models, allowing fighter jets like the Sukhoi to carry up to three BrahMos missiles instead of just one. In addition to missile production, the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility will handle assembly and testing operations.
The event also marked the launch of the Titanium and Super Alloys Materials Plant, which will manufacture critical materials for defense, and the Defence Testing Infrastructure System to certify defense products. The UP Defence Industrial Corridor, launched in 2018, spans six nodes across the state and aims to attract significant defense investments.
