Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar on Thursday for his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir following the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7. Welcomed at the airport by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Singh travelled to the Badami Bagh Cantonment, where he met with soldiers and reviewed the current security landscape in the region.

During his address, Singh paid heartfelt tributes to the soldiers who laid down their lives in the fight against terrorism and honoured the memory of innocent civilians killed in the recent Pahalgam attack. He also extended his prayers for the speedy recovery of injured soldiers. Expressing pride in the armed forces, Singh acknowledged their exceptional bravery under tough conditions, especially during Operation Sindoor, which he said was carried out with precision under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While interacting with the troops, Singh emphasized that he was not only present as the Defence Minister but also as a grateful citizen of India. He also called for Pakistan’s nuclear weapons to be brought under international supervision, echoing Prime Minister Modi’s recent strong statements against nuclear blackmail by adversaries.
As part of his visit, Singh inspected Pakistani shells recovered at the cantonment and closely interacted with personnel stationed there. Meanwhile, General Dwivedi visited forward areas under the Chinar Corps’ Dagger Division, commending soldiers for their vigilance and morale during the operation.
