Ramalinga Reddy would meet carpooling aggregators on October 3rd
Carpooling for commercial purposes would require yellow board
Yellow board complusion does not arise for food and E-commerce delivery
Transport Minister in the Government of Karnataka, Ramalinga Reddy has confirmed that no ban has been put in place with regard to carpooling in Bengaluru. He stated that the reports that have emerged in social media and certain media outlets are not true.
Speaking to NewsFirst Prime, he said, “Permissions are required for autos and school buses. But for non-commercial purposes, the question of permission does not arise for carpooling. There is no question of banning. Carpooling aggregators are just being merely asked to shift to a yellow board if they are doing it for commercial purposes.”
Ramalinga Reddy reiterated that carpooling is useful in light of the traffic conundrum in the city. However it is being seen in relation with the larger transport economy of the city. “This was one of the thirty demands of the protestors on September 11th. Currently more than 25,000 yellow board vehicles operate across the city.” he mentioned.
He however clarified that despite being a commercial activity, this compulsion of using yellow boards does not arise in the case of e-commerce and food delivery as no objections have been raised pertaining to that. He would be meeting carpooling aggregators later in the day to arrive at a consensus.
