Ranbir Kapoor recently shared memories of his college days and how his late father, actor Rishi Kapoor, enforced a strict budget to teach him the value of money.
Before his Bollywood debut, Ranbir studied at the School of Visual Arts and the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York. Despite his privileged background, Rishi Kapoor limited Ranbir’s budget to barely enough for two meals a day, often from McDonald’s.

Ranbir emphasized that his father’s decision was to ensure he lived like a student and not a superstar’s son. This frugal lifestyle continued when Ranbir returned to Mumbai and worked as an assistant director on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Black,” taking public transport to get to work.
Ranbir also opened up about his time at HR College in Mumbai, where he picked up smoking—a habit he quit last year for his daughter’s sake. His mother, Neetu Kapoor, recalled how Rishi insisted on a normal upbringing, making Ranbir travel in economy class even on long flights.
On the work front, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s “Ramayan”.
