Randeep used the word Chaatna while attacking Hema Malini

BJP leaders accused him of being sexist

BJP is itself anti-woman so it sees everything with an anti-woman lens: Randeep

General Secretary of the Indian National Congress (INC) Randeep Surjewala found himself caught in a controversy after he attacked Bollywood actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) for allegedly not performing her duties and indulging in flattery. The Hindi word for flattery “Chaatna” also has a literal meaning of “Lick”. The BJP leaders therefore accused him of being sexist and disrespectful towards a senior artist.

Randeep Surjewala however posted the entire video of the proceedings and stood by his words. He offered a clarification on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter). The BJP IT cell has a habit of putting edited, misrepresented and false statements. This is to distract the people of the country from the government’s anti-youth, anti-farmer and anti-poor policies, its failures and its efforts to make the constitution null and void. In the full video I say, we respect Hema Malini. She married Dharmendra. She is like a daughter-in-law for us. My limited point was that in political life, everyone should be responsible towards the citizens. My intention was not to humiliate Hema Malini or any other woman. BJP is itself anti-woman so it sees everything with an anti-woman lens and spreads lies,” Randeep said.
