Ranya Rao gold smuggling case: She hid 3/4ths of gold in her clothing, rest in her bag

Bengaluru is reeling from a shocking case of gold smuggling, as actress Ranya Rao has been caught with ₹17.29 crore worth of gold and cash. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials, during their investigation, uncovered a massive stash of 14.5 kg of gold, smuggled from Dubai, and ₹2.67 crore in cash from her residence.

Smuggling operation uncovered

Ranya Rao’s daring smuggling method shocked officials. She allegedly hid three-quarters of the gold in her clothing, while the rest was concealed in her bag. The entire haul consisted of solid gold bars, making it one of the biggest seizures in Bangalore International Airport’s history.

Following her arrest at the airport, DRI officials raided her home, where they discovered huge cash reserves. The total value of gold and cash seized amounts to ₹17.29 crore, the largest in recent memory.

DRI and ED tighten investigation

Authorities suspect Ranya Rao is part of a larger smuggling network, and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has now joined the probe to investigate possible hawala money transfers. The actress’s multiple trips to Dubai have raised further suspicions, with officials tracking her foreign connections.
