The ongoing mango festival in Karnataka has turned into a fruit lover’s paradise, with over 50 unique varieties of mangoes on display—each grown by local farmers across the state. Among the many indigenous and hybrid varieties showcased, one exotic fruit has captured everyone’s attention: the Miyazaki mango, famously dubbed the “world’s costliest mango.”

Originally from Japan, the Miyazaki mango is known not only for its striking red-purple hue and luxurious texture but also for its jaw-dropping price. In Japan, a kilogram of Miyazaki mangoes can fetch up to ₹2 lakh. This year, the festival features these rare fruits grown right here in Karnataka—specifically by a farmer from Kadur taluk in Chikkamagaluru district.
At the festival, these prized mangoes are being sold at around ₹2,000 per piece, drawing significant interest from mango enthusiasts and curious buyers alike. Farmers say that the Miyazaki variety can be cultivated in almost any soil, making it a viable option for local growers looking to diversify and boost profits.
The successful adaptation of this international variety by Karnataka’s farmers is a proud moment for the state’s agricultural sector. It not only highlights the innovation and experimentation among local growers but also signals high export potential and lucrative returns for those willing to venture beyond traditional crops.
