Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking his entry into politics. The news was shared by his wife, Rivaba Jadeja, a BJP MLA from Jamnagar, on her social media account. She posted pictures of the couple holding their BJP membership cards, celebrating the cricketer’s political debut.

The move comes shortly after the BJP launched a membership drive, initiated by the party’s National President JP Nadda, who renewed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s membership on September 2 in Delhi. Ravindra Jadeja, 35, is the latest high-profile addition to the party.

Rivaba Jadeja had joined the BJP in 2019 and secured a win in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections from the Jamnagar constituency. She defeated Aam Aadmi Party candidate Karshanbhai Karmur, strengthening her political career within the party.

Ravindra Jadeja, known for his exceptional all-round cricketing skills, recently announced his retirement from T20 Internationals following India’s victorious T20 World Cup campaign in 2024 against South Africa. With this move, Jadeja now shifts his focus to politics, potentially bringing his star power to the BJP’s campaign efforts.

Jadeja’s entry into politics aligns him with his wife’s established political career, and the couple is expected to contribute to the party’s growing influence in Gujarat.
