In the aftermath of Friday’s IPL 2025 match in Lucknow, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have faced penalties for slow over-rates, with captains Rajat Patidar and Pat Cummins fined in accordance with the league's updated code of conduct.

This marked RCB’s second over-rate violation of the season, the first occurring on April 7. As a result, Patidar was handed a fine of INR 24 lakh. Additionally, the rest of RCB's playing XII incurred fines of either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, depending on which amount was lower.
SRH, on the other hand, committed their first such offence of the season. Accordingly, Cummins received a fine of INR 12 lakh.
Although Jitesh Sharma captained RCB during the match due to Patidar returning from injury as a specialist batter, the IPL regulations still hold the designated team captain accountable for breaches across the season. A similar precedent was set earlier when Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was fined for a second team offence, despite not leading the side during the initial breach.
Under the revised 2025 rules, a third offence would result in stiffer financial penalties but not player suspensions, a departure from previous seasons. However, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya sat out the team’s opener due to a suspension carried over from IPL 2024.
