The incident occurred near the gates of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where thousands of RCB fans had gathered to catch a glimpse of their cricketing heroes. According to eyewitnesses, the crowd swelled beyond control, and panic spread when security barriers gave way, triggering a stampede. Emergency services rushed to the spot and transported the injured to nearby hospitals.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who attended the event, has cancelled all public engagements and is en route to Bowring Hospital to meet the injured and families of the deceased. “This is an unimaginable loss. Celebrations should never end in sorrow. We will ensure a thorough investigation and extend all possible support to the bereaved,” he said in a brief statement.
Authorities have ordered an immediate review of crowd management protocols and assured strict accountability. The Bengaluru City Police have urged citizens to avoid mass gatherings until further notice. Grief and shock have gripped the city as fans mourn a tragic end to what was meant to be a historic day of celebration.
