A day after having traded all rounder Shahbaz Ahmed with Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) slow left-arm orthodox bowler Mayank Dagar, The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have announced the list of all released players ahead of the auction which would be held in Dubai on December 19th. The released players from RCB include Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, Finn Allen, Josh Hazlewood, Michael Bracewell, David Willey, Wayne Parnell, Sonu Yadav, Avinash Singh, Siddharth Kaul and Kedhar Jadhav.
Apart from New Zealand opener Finn Alenn all the players that have been released are all rounders or bowlers. This throws light on the strategy the team has been incorporating under their new coach Andy Flowers ahead of the auction. The team management seems to be going for an overhaul in the bowling department especially in the spin department despite having retained mainstays such as Mohammad Siraj and Reece Topley.
In a video released on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Coach Andy Flower and Director of Cricket Mo Bobat threw light on the process they followed for the retention. Purse size, flexibility to adapt to different conditions and having a wide range of options were some of the criteria they had in mind. Senior cricketers in the team namely Captain Faf Du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell were also consulted to get inputs about the players.
