Bombay High Court judge Gautam Patel not impressed by Singham
He says the movie sends out a wrong message
The judge stressed that law is paramount
The movie Singham, released in 2011, has been etched in our memories, for an impressive portrayal of the robust cop Singham, played by Ajay Devgn.
Though it was a hit among the masses, it has not gone down too well with a Bombay High Court judge Gautam Patel. In his opinion, he has noted that the movie sends out a wrong message to the public and sets a wrong precedent.
He said, “In movies, police rail against judges who are shown as docile, timid, thickly spectacled and often very badly dressed. They accuse the courts of letting the guilty go. The hero cop delivers justice single-handedly,” as reported by India Today.
The judge was particularly severe on the climax scene.
He added, “Singham movie has especially shown in its climax scene where the entire police force descends on a politician played by Prakash Raj…and shows that justice has now been served. But I ask, has it.”
Though the movie renders what can be termed ‘instant justice’ the judge noted that the process of law is slow and rued the growth of impatience among the people.
“Why this impatience? It has to go through a process where we decide innocence or guilt. These processes are slow…they have to be…because of the cardinal principle that the liberty of an individual is not to be confiscated.”
