Red Alert issued in Kodagu amidst heavy rains in Kerala

Heavy rains in Kerala have resulted in a deadly landslide. Similar rain has also been observed in the Kodagu district of Karnataka. A red alert has been issued in Kodagu in light of heavy rains for July 30th and July 31st. 

It must be noted that Kodagu lies within 3 hours of travelling distance from Wayanad in Kerala wherein the deadly landslide has claimed more than 100 lives. People in Kodagu are in a state of apprehension in light of the development in Wayanad. Intermittent rains in Kodagu are adding to the anxiety of the people. There have been minor incidents of hills collapsing in the region. This has also caused panic among people using the National Highway or the State Highway.

The heavy rains have also caused water in the Kaveri river to reach up to dangerous levels. 1  lakh cusecs of extra water from the K.R.S dam was released on July 30th. The fear of the water flowing into the nearby regions has encapsulated people. Safety warnings have been issued to people on the river banks.

Electric poles are getting damaged due to the heavy rains and wind. This has resulted in sustained power cuts in many rural parts of Kodagu.
