An incident wherein a Spanish bike rider was gang raped by 7 men during her tour of India in Jharkhand has caused outrage among people. Bollywood actress Richa Chadha was also one among the outraged. “Shameful! Indians are treating foreigners like they treat their own women. Shame on our rotten society,” she stated.

Richa even condemned the response by the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women Rekha Sharma when she characterised an account of sexual assault as being defamatory to India. “Did you ever report the incident  to Police? If not than you are totally an irresponsible person. Writing only on social media and defaming whole country is not good choice,” Rekha had said in response to which Richa said, “This is NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma’s response to someone sharing a personal experience of sexual harassment of a woman on a train. Rekha Sharma is more worried about perception rather than the ground reality of rape, perhaps she doesn’t get time to read the newspaper. Do tag her in the future, when you come across news of rape and sexual violence, so she is aware. Rekha Sharma is a public servant and her salary comes out of your hard-earned income via taxes. accha laga? (Felt good?) Jai Hind.”
