Faridabad: A retired pilot lost ₹72 lakh to cyber fraudsters who lured him with the promise of an opportunity to meet Elon Musk, the world’s richest man. The victim, Shakti Singh Lumba, was targeted through his social media account by a scammer posing as a manager at Musk’s company.

The fraudster, using the name Anna Sherman, convinced Lumba to follow an X account impersonating Maye Musk, Elon Musk’s mother. Engaging in direct conversations, the imposter gained his trust and encouraged him to invest in Tesla and SpaceX in exchange for a personal meeting with Musk.

Initially, Lumba invested ₹2.91 lakh, believing his funds were multiplying. The fraudsters provided fake assurances of growing profits, leading him to make further investments. At one point, they impersonated Musk himself, even sending a photo of a Rolex watch as a supposed gift.

When Lumba later attempted to withdraw his money, the scammers claimed the company's account was frozen and insisted he invest more to retrieve his funds. Realizing he had been deceived, he approached the Cyber Crime Branch and lodged a complaint.

A senior officer confirmed that a case has been registered and investigations are underway. Lumba, who deposited his money in Indian accounts, remains hopeful that authorities will recover his losses.
