Reflecting on her time in jail, Rhea admitted that the initial days were particularly challenging, filled with overwhelming feelings of depression and darkness. “Jail is a strange world,” she remarked. “There is no society, just a peculiar sense of equality where everyone is reduced to a number. It’s pure survival, and each day feels like a year.”
Despite the bleak surroundings, Rhea found solace in connecting with other women inmates, many of whom had lost all hope. Determined to bring a spark of positivity, she began teaching yoga and dance to the women and reciting poems to the children. “I thought of giving them a bit of myself,” she explained.
Rhea Chakraborty was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in September 2020 during the investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, which occurred in June of that year. His death led to an intense media trial, with Rhea facing accusations, including alleged abetment to suicide.
