Rishab Shetty, the acclaimed actor and director, recently received the National Film Award for Best Actor for his role in Kantara. Upon his return to Mangaluru on Wednesday, Shetty expressed deep gratitude, dedicating the prestigious award to the Daivas (deities), Daiva Narthakas (traditional performers), and all the supporters of the film.

Addressing the media, Shetty emphasized that Kantara is rooted in the culture of Daiva worship and the traditional practices of the region. “This film is about the Daivas and the Narthakas who are devoted to them. The award truly belongs to them. Without their blessings, this achievement would not have been possible,” he stated.

Shetty, who was pleasantly surprised by the recognition, highlighted the team effort behind the film’s success. “Our main goal was to make a film that resonated with the audience, and the love we’ve received from them is our greatest reward,” he remarked, adding that the jury’s recognition was an unexpected honour.

Currently, Shetty and his team are filming Kantara 2, with a release date expected to be announced soon.

Responding to criticisms about the portrayal of Daivaradhane (deity worship), Shetty clarified that his intention was to honor the tradition. “As a practitioner of this worship, I approached the film with deep reverence,” he said, expressing disappointment over the ridicule in public discussions.
