Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has returned to the private sector, taking up a senior advisory role at American investment banking giant Goldman Sachs. The firm confirmed his appointment, stating that Sunak will provide strategic insights on economic and geopolitical issues.
Sunak, who served as Prime Minister from October 2022 to July 2024, had a brief but eventful tenure at Downing Street. Prior to his premiership, he held key roles including Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022. He originally entered politics in 2015 and is currently the Member of Parliament for Richmond and Northallerton in northern England, despite the Conservative Party's heavy defeat in the 2024 general election.
This isn’t Sunak’s first association with Goldman Sachs. Before entering politics, he worked at the bank's New York office early in his career. His return to the firm marks a full-circle moment, with reports indicating that he plans to donate his salary to charity — continuing a tradition he upheld during his time in government.
Senior advisers at Goldman Sachs typically earn between $136,000 and $220,000 annually, or approximately ₹1.7 crore. However, Sunak’s compensation details have not been publicly disclosed.
Sunak’s new role combines his background in finance with his political experience, positioning him as a valuable asset in advising the bank on global affairs.
