A 28-year-old man who succumbed to injuries from a road accident has posthumously saved eight lives through a multi-organ donation in Bengaluru. Brought to Fortis Hospital in Nagarbhavi in critical condition, the man had sustained severe head trauma and internal bleeding. Despite urgent medical interventions, he was declared brain dead following a rapid deterioration of his condition.

In a remarkable act of compassion, his grieving family chose to donate his organs, enabling life-saving transplants for multiple recipients. Over a five-hour retrieval procedure, doctors successfully harvested his eyes, lungs, liver, heart valves, kidneys, and skin.
The donated organs were distributed across several hospitals in the city. Narayana Netralaya received both eyes, while Manipal Hospitals accepted the lungs and heart valves. The liver was transferred to HCG Hospital, and one kidney went to Ramaiah Hospital. The second kidney was transplanted into a 41-year-old woman at Fortis Hospital, who had been battling end-stage renal disease for seven years.
To facilitate the timely transfer of vital organs, a green corridor was created between Fortis Nagarbhavi and Manipal Hospital on HAL-Old Airport Road. Traffic police ensured that the 20-kilometer route was covered in just 29 minutes.
The act of donation, coordinated with the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), highlights the impact one individual’s legacy can have. The family’s courageous decision amid tragedy has offered a new chance at life for eight people across the city.
