Rohan Bopanna announces retirement from international tennis

Senior tennis player Rohan Bopanna has announced his retirement from international tennis tournaments. Rohan participated along with N.Sriram in the Men’s Double category in the 2024 Paris Olympics. They were however defeated by the team led by Roger-Vasselin and Mofils in the first round of the competition. Rohan and Sriram lost in consecutive rounds by scores of 2-5 and 6-7. Rohan announced that the 2024 Paris Olympics would mark the end of his career. 

Rohan represented India on the international stage for 22 years. “This will be my final international match. I have understood where I have reached as a player. I have played at the highest levels for 20 years. I am proud of what I have achieved in my career,” Rohan said.

This implies that Rohan will not be a part of the 2026 Asian Games. Rohan along with Sania Mirza had reached the semifinals in the mixed doubles category in the 2016 Rio Olympics. This time however, the dreams of laying hands on a medal remained incomplete. 

Rohan has reached the finals of a grand slam event in the doubles category on 6 occasions. Rohan has won the Grand Slam on 2 occasions.
