Questions have been raised over Rohit's performances

You are playing for the pride of the team: Deep

Next year is the big auction: Deep

The trade between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) involving Indian all rounder Hardik Pandya seems to have backfired with both teams having underperformed so far in the Indian Premier League 2024. While a large section of fans have been sympathetic to Indian captain Rohit Sharma, questions have been raised over his performances. “You are playing for the pride of the team, you are playing as a professional cricketer and you are playing for your pride as well. You don’t want to play a game and not want to perform. Every time you cross the line, you want to do your best,” former Indian wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta said during an interaction on Star Sports.

Deep Dasgupta also placed these performances in context of the mega auction that would occur ahead of IPL 2025. There are speculations that Rohit Sharma isn’t keen on continuing with MI. “Let’s not forget that next year is the big auction. This is the last few opportunities that all the professional cricketers have. Even if the team is not going to qualify, at least to put up a good show and tell everyone, ‘You know what, I am there’. He is such an integral part of the team since he is the captain, but he sets the tone as well at the top of the order. That’s what he has been doing for the last year and a half,” Deep Dasgupta added.
