Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike officials have fined Nanjundeshwara Residency located in the Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited (BHEL) layout for not following the segregation rules laid out by them. It was found that several types of waste were dumped in the bin with no differentiation between dry and wet waste. Diapers, sanitary napkins and pads were also found in the container. It was also observed that the residents of the apartment used public spaces to dump their waste.
BBMP workers refused to collect the waste and informed health inspectors, engineers in charge of waste management and marshals about the situation at hand. BBMP officials found merit in their concerns and approached the apartment association over the issue. An argument seems to have occurred between the officials and a resident of the apartment following which a fine of Rs 15,000 was charged on tha apartment. The fine would be shared by the 25 flats the apartment comprises. The person who picked up the fight with the officials later issued an apology.
The officials later on stuck a notice in the apartment elucidating to the residents about the segregation policy. However a First Information Report (FIR) was filed in the RR Nagar Police Station against a person for abusing and obstructing a marshal while on duty.
