The announcement was made by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, on Tuesday.

Starting August 15, 2025, owners of non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans can opt for a yearly toll pass at a fixed cost of Rs 3,000. This initiative is exclusively available for private, non-commercial vehicles and applies only to National Highways.

The annual toll pass will be linked to the Fastag system and once activated, will be valid for either one year or up to 200 trips, whichever is earlier. The pass aims to streamline highway travel, reduce congestion at toll booths, and provide predictability in travel expenses for daily or frequent commuters.

The government has clarified that the pass will not be available for commercial or heavy vehicles. With increasing toll charges and rising traffic volumes, this scheme is expected to ease the financial burden on regular commuters while promoting digital payments and faster clearance at toll plazas.

Officials also stated that the implementation will begin in a phased manner, and the pass can be availed through the official Fastag portal or authorized agents.
