A heartwarming video of a Russian woman joyfully displaying her new Indian citizenship status has gone viral on social media. Marina Kharbani, a Russian influencer married to an Indian man, shared her excitement upon receiving her Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card. In the video, she beams with happiness as she holds her passport and carries child on her lap unable to hide her delight.

In her post, Marina wrote, “Finally, I am Indian,” expressing her overwhelming joy. She revealed that she had been waiting for the OCI card for three and a half years and called it a “Precious document”. The OCI scheme is a programme introduced by the Government of India that allows certain foreign nationals to obtain a form of Indian residency. According to the official guidelines, a person of foreign origin married to an Indian citizen or an existing OCI cardholder is eligible to apply for registration under this scheme.
